I am as inexperienced at this race as anyone, but I have been doing a TON of research on how to train for this race and on how to perform the obstacles in it.  These are my two first basic suggestions that we all need to be working on:

1.  Your running base.  This race is 8-10 miles long, with inclines and declines across the face of the mountain.  If you haven't already, it is crucial to start building your running base.  Start incrementally and set weekly goals.  For me, using a running app is very helpful.  I use Runkeeper, but there is also Runtastic, and Strava is a way popular app for everything distance.

2.  Grip strength.  Almost all of the obstacles require a good amount of grip strength.  There are all kinds of great videos to demonstrate how to develop grip strength.  I really like videos from AthleanX.com, Jeff Cavaliere, he is physical therapist and has worked with professional athletes.  He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.  He totally understands and teaches the science behind strength training.  I will share some of his videos on this blog occasionally, ones that apply to what we are trying to do.

Here are a couple of videos that might be helpful.  Please feel free to share your training tips and progress here.

Here is one so you can see what the race looks like, there are a ton of these on Youtube.
